About the project - The Poem

The Poem

Set on a remembered Silk Road, Here is where we meet traces a traveller’s westward journey toward her beloved. Over a single night at a caravanserai, she asks herself and the constellations the vital question… as love is traded along the economies of the Silk Road, what is the cost?

Here is Where We Meet was a finalist in the Tupelo Quarterly Open Poetry Prize 2025 (USA), and its title is a nod to art critic John Berger who frequently wrote about art and migrant bodies as commodities. The poem draws inspiration from the poet’s own intercultural relationship, her research into the interconnected history of China and Iran, and the poetry of Kahlil Ghibran and classical Chinese traditions.
