About the project - Overview
Overview
Here is Where We Meet is a multidisciplinary, multilingual, and multidimensional installation where poetry, music, visual art, and space converge as one to interrogate the economies of love. Inspired by the Silk Road as a living network and mirror, the project fosters cross-cultural dialogue, linking East and West Asian ancestral pathways with the layered identities of contemporary Australia. Celebrating the diverse, interconnected cultures that shape our country’s pluralist fabric, the project embodies art’s potential to bridge difference through shared emotion and experience.
An immersive, experiential embodiment of Nicole W. Lee’s epic poem, the installation transforms written text into an audio-visual-spatial journey through intimate collaboration with visual artist Dapeng Liu and composer Paul Castles. The poem, translated into colour and sound, unfolds across shifting terrains of language, dreamscape, and love – reviving the ancient oral storytelling tradition in a contemporary form that illuminates our shared longing for connection.
Here is Where We Meet offers audiences a richly sensorial experience while developing flexible, meaningful models of presentation and a scalable structure. The 4D installation allows for different levels of production depending on funding and hosting capacity as well as extension through publication, digital platforms, and national or international tours.
