Project outcomes & formats - installation

Installation

The primary outcome is to develop and produce a 4D Audio-Visual-Spatial Caravanserai Installation Experience, which can be experienced at two scales. Viewers will experience Here is Where We Meet through Dapeng Liu’s reinterpretations of shan shui (mountain-and-water) painting—in combination with colour field and minimalist aesthetics—in dialogue with Nicole W. Lee’s poem set to Paul Castles’ geo-located electro-acoustic songs recorded by Chinese, Iranian, and other hybrid Australian artists.

Small-scale Installation

  • Digital projection of original paintings (8-10 large scale, and a smaller series) in a single room.

  • Recorded music (2-3 songs) played through sound system paired with artworks, including spoken and sung sections of the poem in original and translated languages.

  • Minimal technical setup; ideal for small galleries, auditoriums, or community spaces.

Large-scale Installation

  • Installation of 8-10 original large scale paintings, as well as a series of smaller paintings, and digital projections.

  • Recorded music (a 60 minute album) of songs, including spoken and sung sections of the poem in original and translated languages, experienced through geo-located headphones.

  • Multi-room, non-linear self-paced journey (4–12 rooms), with each room based on a caravanserai along an imagined Silk Road, enhanced by lighting and staging.

  • Potential for immersive, interactive visual and sound design.

  • Suitable for galleries and arts festivals.
